Meet Sam Marshall who joined Perigon Group in the height of the Pandemic last year and has become one of our most successful Consultants in the Sydney Technology Team.

What did you do before you started a career in recruitment?

Before moving into recruitment I worked in a range of sales roles, mainly consisting of phone or door to door sales. I love people interaction so sales was a great career choice for me.

What’s your favourite part of the job?

My favourite part of the job is when a candidate really wants a role and isn’t too confident they will get it but then when they do and you can break the news to them is brilliant – charging a fee is then the icing on the cake!

What’s the biggest challenge in the job?

I think the most difficult part to the job is that our product is people. While this is also a massive positive, we can’t ‘control’ people and there are often lots of ups and downs in the recruitment process. Sometimes, things don’t always go your way.

Why do you like working for Perigon Group?

Perigon is a high achieving business with like-minded individuals that enjoy coming together and making work fun and enjoyable. The culture is set by everybody and there’s always help when required.

How would you describe the culture at Perigon Group in three words?

Top performers that like to have fun along the way

What are the traits you think are important to be successful in the job?

Resilience and persistence are vital. It’s also important to be able to take a hit or two and still smile as everyone enjoys it when its going well.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about a new career in recruitment?

First of all consider the markets you want to recruit for and spend each day talking to candidates about (something that interests you will make it a much more enjoyable job). After that find a business that aligns itself with your core values and what you want to achieve in your career then jump into it and give it all you have got – the rewards are there for all.
