Our client is a well respected Energy and Infrastructure business who is undergoing a busy period of growth in their energy markets trading team and is looking to hire a highly talented analyst.

The Role
This role is well suited to an ambitious Analyst looking to continue or embark on a career within Energy Markets, as it will provide the platform to support the existing trading team with a view in the future of becoming a trader yourself. 

Initially, the role will be responsible for the analysis and support in bidding in the National Electricity Market, with the goal of optimizing the value of the group's generation assets in the physical market. 

Key responsibilities will include; 
  • Analyse the National Electricity Market to understand supply, demand, competitor strategies and transmission constraints
  • Provide analytical support to wider trading team using the understanding of the National Electricity Markets, to optimise the physical and financial trading positions of the group
  • Assess risks and opportunities of plant operations by coordinating with operations staff 
  • Submit plant offers into the National Electricity Market in accordance with the NEM timetable, and in compliance with internal risk management policies 
  • Provide some analytical support to other teams in particular the financial trading and electricity retail functions
About You
Ideally you will have a tertiary degree in economics, maths, engineering or similar and be looking to pursue further post graduate study in a relevant field. 
Your proven analytical and quantitative ability combined with your strong interpersonal skills will be imperative to you being successful in this role. You will also have strong IT skills and be willing to learn and adapt new languages to trading as required. You will have previously worked in a trading environment and prior experience in electricity will be highly regarded.

This is a complex analytical role where you will be using SQL, VBA and you will have a natural appetite to explore new and innovative ways to trade efficiently and effectively.
