A leading financial services organisation is seeking an experienced Lead Risk & Governance Senior to uplift first‑line risk, governance, and assurance capability across a key business division.
This is a high‑impact 6‑month fixed‑term role focused on strengthening risk frameworks, improving controls, and enhancing governance maturity.
About the Role
You’ll play a central role in uplifting Line 1 risk practices, maturing risk and control registers, driving assurance activities, and supporting incident, audit, and issue management. While there is some BAU, the primary focus is risk uplift, control effectiveness, and embedding improved governance.
What You'll Be Doing
- Improve risk identification, assessment, control design and monitoring.
- Maintain and uplift risk artefacts including risk & control registers and issue logs.
- Lead control testing, assurance reviews, and data quality checks.
- Identify trends and drive practical remediation and process improvements.
- Support incident, breach and complaints governance.
- Coordinate with audit teams on evidence packs, responses and remediation tracking.
- Deliver clear reporting and build strong stakeholder relationships.
- Strong Line 1 risk, operational risk, assurance or governance experience within financial services.
- Proven background in risk & control frameworks and assurance activity.
- Experience supporting audits and regulatory reviews.
- Excellent communication, analysis and stakeholder engagement capability.
- Familiarity with risk systems (e.g., Archer or similar).
- Lead a meaningful risk uplift program with senior visibility.
- Flexibility to work from Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney.
