We are partnering with a leading financial services organisation to appoint a Client Taxation Specialist into their growing superannuation platform. This role sits within a well‑established tax function supporting some of Australia's most recognised super funds.
This is an opportunity for a Big 4 or custodian‑trained tax professional to step into a high‑impact, in‑house role with strong technical exposure, excellent leadership, and long‑term career runway.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Tax, you will be part of the Client Taxation & ATO Reporting function, working closely across tax, finance and operations. The focus of the role is on tax technical matters relating to superannuation funds, ensuring accurate annual tax reporting and managing tax risk at a fund level.
You will not be reviewing every transaction day‑to‑day — rather, you will be engaged when matters are out of the ordinary, technically complex, or require judgement, guidance, or ATO interaction.
This is a client‑facing role, and Melbourne‑based candidates are strongly preferred due to proximity to key clients.
Key Responsibilities
- End‑to‑end preparation and oversight of annual tax returns for superannuation funds
- Advising on tax treatment of fund transactions, unit pricing, and financial system tax models
- Supporting accurate annual tax reporting and compliance
- Managing and responding to ATO queries, audits, and reviews
- Identifying and managing tax risk beyond financial accounting
- Working closely with internal teams across ATO reporting, financial accounting, and client services
- Providing tax guidance and advice to clients when complex or unusual matters arise
- Assisting with onboarding of new funds and tax‑related projects as required
We are looking for someone who wants to build a career, not take a short‑term step.
You will likely bring:
- 3-5+ years' experience in tax, ideally within:
- Big 4 Tax (Financial Services / Funds / Superannuation), or
- Custodians
- Strong understanding of funds and superannuation tax
- CA or CPA qualified (or close to completion)
- Tax Agent registration highly regarded but not essential
- Confidence dealing with tax technical issues and stakeholders
- A collaborative mindset with strong attention to detail
- Work directly with a highly regarded Head of Tax, known for deep technical expertise and mentoring
- Exposure to both client taxation and ATO reporting teams
- Genuine learning and career progression in a stable, growing environment
- Hybrid working (approx. 5 days per fortnight in office)
- Competitive salary, performance‑based bonus, CPD and study support
- A long‑term role with clear development, not a churn‑and‑burn environment
