About the Organisation
Our client is a well-established and fast-growing non-bank lender based in Brisbane with an ambitious growth trajectory and an entrepreneurial culture.
The business operates in the solution-based and retail lending space, working with complex borrowers across a growing product suite. Their recently launched commercial products have gained strong market traction. Things move quickly here, that is part of the culture and it is part of the appeal.
This is a lean, high-performing legal team where your contribution is visible, your ideas are welcome, and you are trusted to get on with it.
About the Role
A newly created Legal Counsel position reporting directly to the General Counsel. There are two core focus areas.
The first is enforcement and collections, working across the collections team on enforcement strategy, distressed borrower situations, and insolvency matters.
The second is commercial legal support across the business's newly launched lending product, where there is a significant pipeline of transactional work that needs attention alongside new product development and evolving scenarios.
Day to day you will be across:
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating facility agreements, security documentation and intercreditor arrangements
- Supporting transaction execution and settlements end to end
- Advising on enforcement, distressed situations and insolvency matters
- Assisting with general commercial legal matters across the business as needed
- Collaborating with investment, credit and portfolio teams
- Playing an informal mentoring role for a junior team member
You are an admitted lawyer with solid post-admission experience, ideally with some background in commercial finance, private credit, lending or a related practice area.
Some private practice experience is preferred, but industry background is a plus rather than a hard requirement. If your attitude is right and you have enforcement-adjacent or commercial transaction experience, please apply!
Beyond the technical skills, cultural fit is everything. What matters most here:
- Available, affable and humble
- Commercially minded and solutions-focused rather than purely risk-averse
- Autonomous and adaptable, someone who can navigate ambiguity and competing priorities
- Someone who brings ideas and has the initiative to implement them
- A genuine mentor who takes pride in developing the people around them
