Our client is a well established and fast growing non bank lender based in Brisbane with an ambitious growth trajectory and an entrepreneurial culture.
The business operates in the solution based and retail lending space, working with complex borrowers across a growing product suite. Their recently launched commercial products have gained strong market traction. Things move quickly here, that is part of the culture and it is part of the appeal.
This is a lean, high performing legal team where your contribution is visible, your ideas are welcome, and you are trusted to get on with it.
About the Role
A Legal Counsel position reporting directly to the General Counsel, working alongside a small, close knit legal team. The role covers real estate transactional work, trust and SMSF advice, and commercial agreement drafting and review at the front end of the business, alongside support for enforcement and regulatory matters as the business grows, including input on an active credit fund licensing process.
This is not routine conveyancing, that work is handled by external lawyers, this role is about the substantive front end legal work that underpins the business's lending and commercial activity.
Day to day you will be across:
- Advising on real estate transactional matters, including off the plan and commercial property work at the front end of transactions
- Providing trust and structuring advice, including SMSF related matters
- Drafting, reviewing and managing a varied caseload of commercial agreements
- Supporting enforcement strategy, distressed borrower situations and insolvency matters alongside the collections team
- Advising on regulatory change as the business grows, including input on an active credit fund licensing process and cyber risk considerations
- Working closely with the General Counsel and a recently admitted junior lawyer, bringing complementary experience into the team
You are an admitted lawyer with solid post admission experience, ideally with exposure to real estate, trust, SMSF, commercial or enforcement work. Industry background is a plus rather than a hard requirement, if your attitude is right and you bring relevant transactional or enforcement adjacent experience, please apply.
Beyond the technical skills, cultural fit is everything. What matters most here:
- Methodical, detail focused and comfortable managing a varied, high volume caseload
- Keen to move in house for broader exposure and mentorship, with a real interest in front end transactional and enforcement adjacent work
- Commercially minded and solutions focused rather than purely risk averse
- Adaptable and autonomous, comfortable navigating ambiguity in a fast moving, entrepreneurial environment
- Available, affable and humble
The Details
Full time, Brisbane based. Salary is fluid depending on experience. Flexible working arrangements in place.
