Job Details

Looking for a senior legal opportunity where you can genuinely influence business decisions, work directly with the CEO and enjoy the flexibility of a part-time working week?

Elepay Group offers something a little different.

An established Australian private lender, Elepay has spent the past eight years building a successful business across consumer and commercial lending, processing more than 11,000 applications and lending close to $500 million.

With a team of fewer than 20, Elepay has deliberately stayed lean. There are no unnecessary layers of management, no lengthy approval chains and certainly no expectation that great ideas need to come from the top.
Instead, you'll find a collaborative, commercially minded leadership team who value people who think for themselves, take ownership and aren't afraid to challenge the way things have always been done.

And that's exactly what they're looking for in their next General Counsel.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of the legal function, work closely with the CEO and wider leadership team, and play an important role in shaping how the business operates and grows.

You'll be trusted to bring your expertise to the table, balance commercial opportunities with regulatory obligations and, importantly, help find solutions rather than simply identify problems.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the CEO, this is a broad, hands-on position offering exposure to all areas of the business, from regulatory compliance and property-backed lending through to commercial agreements, credit decisions and strategic projects.

Working closely with the leadership team, you'll play a key role in balancing commercial opportunities with legal and regulatory obligations, providing practical advice that protects the business while supporting its growth.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking ownership of legal and regulatory compliance across consumer and commercial lending, including ACL, NCCP and ASIC requirements.
  • Providing commercially focused legal advice to the CEO and leadership team, identifying risks and developing practical solutions.
  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, loan facility agreements and broader legal documentation.
  • Supporting property-secured lending transactions, working alongside the paralegal, security and settlements teams and external legal specialists where required.
  • Participating in the Credit Committee, reviewing significant transactions and providing legal and risk advice throughout the approval process.
  • Overseeing legal matters relating to funding arrangements, investor agreements, recoveries and broader business operations.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes, strengthen governance and make effective use of technology and automation.

About You

We're looking for an experienced legal professional who brings strong technical capability alongside commercial judgement, initiative and a genuine willingness to get involved.

Ideally, you'll have a background in banking, finance or lending, with a strong understanding of the regulatory environment and the ability to confidently navigate the balance between commercial objectives and compliance obligations.

You'll also bring:

  • Strong experience across financial services, consumer lending or banking and finance law.
  • Sound knowledge of the Australian regulatory environment, particularly ACL, NCCP and ASIC obligations.
  • Excellent commercial contracting, drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Exposure to property finance, secured lending or loan facility agreements would be highly regarded.
  • The confidence to advise and constructively challenge senior stakeholders, with the ability to make sound, commercially considered decisions.
  • A proactive approach, strong critical thinking skills and a willingness to take ownership rather than simply identify problems.

Importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys variety, can comfortably move between strategic discussions and hands-on legal work, and thrives in an environment where no two days are quite the same.

Why Elepay?

Elepay isn't your typical financial services organisation, and that's very much intentional.

With a national presence and a team of fewer than 20, the business has deliberately maintained a flat structure where collaboration, accountability and the ability to make things happen are valued.

The leadership team is hands-on, approachable and genuinely enjoys working through challenges together. You'll have direct access to the CEO, the opportunity to contribute to important business decisions and the freedom to bring your own ideas and expertise to the table.

The business moves quickly, but never at the expense of doing things properly. Strong governance and compliance underpin everything Elepay does, and the General Counsel will have the authority and support to ensure those standards are maintained.

This is an environment for someone who enjoys being part of the conversation, takes pride in finding solutions and wants to see the impact of their work.

The Arrangement

Elepay recognises that the right person may not be looking for a traditional five-day working week. This opportunity offers a part-time arrangement, with flexibility around working days and hours to suit both the successful candidate and the business.

We are looking at candidates who are open to working, ideally, 3 to 4 days per week in the Brisbane Head Office, reflecting the importance Elepay places on face-to-face collaboration, leadership and being part of the team.

For someone looking to combine a senior, influential legal position with greater flexibility, this is an opportunity to have both.

Interested?

If you're an experienced legal professional looking for the opportunity to take real ownership, work closely with a commercially minded leadership team and make a meaningful contribution to a growing business, we'd love to hear from you.
