The Organisation

With operations spanning Australia and New Zealand, this organisation manages a diverse portfolio of assets and works closely with a broad range of commercial and operational stakeholders.

The finance function plays an important role in supporting the day to day performance of the business, combining financial control, reporting and analysis with direct involvement in operational matters.

An opportunity is now available for a Senior Financial Accountant to join the Brisbane CBD team, taking responsibility for key reporting deliverables while overseeing a small team of accountants.

The Role

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you'll have responsibility for the financial accounting and reporting of a portfolio of operations, alongside broader corporate accounting requirements.

This position offers a good balance between technical accounting, people management and stakeholder engagement. You'll oversee the quality of financial information, provide guidance to your team and work closely with operational leaders to ensure they have a clear understanding of financial performance.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Overseeing monthly financial reporting, including P&L statements, balance sheets and cashflow reporting
  • Reviewing month-end reconciliations, journals and supporting schedules
  • Managing financial reporting requirements across multiple entities and business units
  • Reviewing financial performance against budgets and forecasts, including variance commentary
  • Working with operational managers to review financial results and identify areas requiring attention
  • Supporting annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes
  • Coordinating audit requirements and assisting with statutory financial statements
  • Overseeing tax and compliance obligations, including BAS, GST and FBT
  • Reviewing payroll-related accounting, debtor balances and other corporate finance activities
  • Providing financial analysis and information for senior management and Board reporting
  • Leading, mentoring and developing a small accounting team
  • Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting and internal controls

About you

You'll be a technically capable accountant who is ready to take ownership of a broader finance function while continuing to develop your leadership experience.

The role requires someone who can confidently review financial information, manage reporting deadlines and build effective relationships with both finance and operational stakeholders.

You'll ideally bring:
  • CA/CPA qualification with at least four years' accounting experience
  • A background in financial accounting, senior accounting or a similar position
  • Strong experience preparing and reviewing financial statements across multiple entities
  • Sound knowledge of month-end, balance sheet reconciliations and statutory requirements
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting and financial performance analysis
  • Previous experience supervising, mentoring or reviewing the work of junior accountants
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with accounting systems
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders
  • An organised and proactive approach to managing competing priorities
  • An interest in improving processes and developing more effective ways of working
Candidates making their first move from professional services will also be considered, particularly those with relevant multi-entity accounting experience and exposure to supervising junior staff.

On Offer
  • Senior accounting position with genuine team leadership responsibilities
  • Brisbane CBD location with hybrid working arrangements
  • Exposure to both corporate and operational accounting
  • Work closely with the Finance Manager and senior operational stakeholders
  • Opportunity to manage and develop a team of accountants
  • Variety across reporting, compliance, financial analysis and process improvement
  • Supportive finance environment with longer-term career development opportunities
