Senior Payroll Officer (Part-Time)

3 Days Per Week | School Hours Available | Long-Term Permanent Opportunity

Are you an experienced Payroll professional looking for a role that offers flexibility, autonomy, and genuine work-life balance without compromising on complexity or challenge?

We're partnering with a well-established organisation seeking a Senior Payroll Officer to join their collaborative team on a permanent part-time basis.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced payroll specialist returning to the workforce, or someone seeking school-friendly hours whilst continuing to utilise their strong technical payroll expertise.

Working approximately 20 hours across Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, you'll play a critical role in the day-to-day management of a large, complex payroll function that sits at the heart of the business.

The Opportunity

This is a true hands-on payroll position, overseeing the end-to-end processing of a high-volume workforce, across both permanent and casual staff.

Operating within a complex environment, payroll is central to the organisation's success. As such, you'll be trusted to manage nuanced payroll matters, navigate multiple awards, ensure compliance, and continually look for opportunities to improve processes and systems.

This role is focused on operational excellence rather than project delivery, making it ideal for someone who enjoys owning the day-to-day payroll function whilst contributing ideas for continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-end payroll processing for a high-volume workforce
  • Interpretation and application of approximately 25 awards and agreements
  • Managing payroll deductions and complex payroll transactions
  • Ensuring compliance with Fair Work legislation, PAYG, superannuation, leave entitlements and payroll obligations
  • Troubleshooting payroll issues and identifying process improvement opportunities
  • Maintaining payroll data integrity and payroll system administration
  • Supporting annual payroll activities and compliance requirements
  • Acting as a trusted subject matter expert for payroll-related queries

About You

We are seeking a technically strong payroll professional who enjoys solving problems and taking ownership.

You'll bring:

  • Demonstrated experience processing end-to-end payroll in a medium to large, high-volume environment
  • Strong understanding of award interpretation and payroll compliance
  • Knowledge of Fair Work requirements, superannuation and PAYG obligations
  • Excellent attention to detail and critical thinking skills
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach
  • Confidence managing payroll complexities independently
  • A positive attitude and willingness to be part of a collaborative team culture

Most importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys finding solutions rather than focusing on problems and can adapt in an environment where regulations and requirements continue to evolve.

What's On Offer

  • Permanent long-term part-time position
  • Approximately 20 hours per week
  • School-friendly hours available
  • Competitive salary package available
  • Excellent work-life balance
  • Supportive, down-to-earth team culture
  • Opportunity to utilise your payroll expertise in a highly valued function
  • Reputable business with strong staff retention and a positive workplace environment

If you're a senior payroll professional looking for flexibility without sacrificing responsibility or challenge, we'd love to hear from you.

This is an outstanding opportunity to join a business where payroll is truly valued and where your expertise will make a meaningful impact every day.
